Help! My dog has diarrhoea
And that can be very annoying. For you, but also for your dog. Diarrhoea in dogs can have different causes and therefore different solutions. In this article, we will tell you what to do if your dog has diarrhoea.
Kira is a clever, playful and headstrong Malinois. Together with her owner Jay, she enjoys long walks, active play sessions and anything to do with water. When Kira put on a bit of weight after her spay and Jay started taking a closer look at her diet, he began searching for a different dog food. Kira now eats Puro. Jay explains why he chose this food and how the switch is going.
My name is Jay. I’m originally from London, where I worked as a head chef, and I now live in the Netherlands. Kira is my Malinois and she recently turned two. She’s incredibly clever, a bit mischievous and, to be honest, rather spoilt!
Our days consist of long walks through the countryside, playing in the park and, of course, spending as much time as possible in and around the water. Whether she’s jumping into a pond or running through a river, Kira loves it all. At home, we enjoy our quiet moments together, usually with a tasty chew for Kira and her favourite spot on her dog bed.
A few months after Kira was spayed, I noticed she was putting on weight quite quickly. When I took a closer look at her current food, I realised it contained a relatively high amount of fat. That prompted me to look for an alternative that better suited her needs.
I think it’s important to know what I’m feeding my dog. That’s why, when comparing different brands, I paid particular attention to the ingredients, the nutritional values and the manufacturer’s transparency. Of course, price, quality and taste also played a part.
Whilst searching online, I came across Puro. I compared various brands, taking other customers’ experiences into account. I didn’t want to switch just for the sake of it, but to make a well-considered choice that I could stand by in the long term.
Kira is now getting the Croc Sensitive Fish Grain-Free, supplemented by steamed sausages from Puro. That combination suits us well.
As a puppy, Kira regularly had problems with her stools. As she also suffered from various rewards, snacks and chew toys As she has sensitive digestion, I was looking for food that is gentle on her system. She also loves fish, so the Croc Sensitive Fish Grain-Free really appealed to me straight away. The ingredients were also the deciding factor for me.
The steamed sausages are a lovely addition. When Kira was young, I tried a raw diet, but I found it time-consuming, relatively expensive and difficult to store. The steamed sausages are a practical alternative. Thanks to the different flavours, there’s always a bit of variety in her food bowl.
I also like to use the sausages whilst training. I simply cut them into small pieces, but they’re also handy for hiding a worming tablet in, for example. That makes them very versatile for us in everyday use.
The transition went very smoothly. Kira was immediately enthusiastic about her new food. As soon as I opened the bag of kibble, she stuck her head in and started eating!
During the transition, I noticed that she would sometimes leave her old food untouched, whilst picking out the Puro kibble and sausages. To me, that was a clear sign that she liked the new food. She seems to particularly appreciate the crunchy texture of the kibble.
What struck me most after that was just how much she looks forward to her meals. Kira knows exactly when it’s mealtime and makes that very clear.
I’m also seeing positive changes in her day-to-day life. Her stools have become much firmer and remain consistent, even though she’s also being given various snacks and chews. Her coat is soft to the touch and has a lovely sheen. What’s more, she’s full of energy for walking, playing and, of course, jumping into the water again.
I’m really pleased with the switch. Kira has been quite fussy about food from a young age. That’s precisely why I did a lot of research before choosing a new brand. I’m now so satisfied that I can well imagine her continuing to eat this food for years to come.
For anyone who’s unsure about making the switch, I’d recommend a sample pack Give it a go. That way, you can try out different flavours and see what your dog likes and how he or she reacts to the food.
Personally, I’d go for a trial pack containing kibble and a assorted pack of steamed sausages. This way, you can find out, step by step, what suits your dog best, without having to order a large quantity of a single variety straight away.
Kira is my first dog. She came into my life during a difficult period when I was dealing with health problems. I’d always wanted to raise a puppy and thought long and hard about it before taking that step.
It wasn’t always easy, but looking back, I’m proud of both of us. Kira has taught me a lot about myself. She motivates me, brings me so much joy, and I honestly can’t imagine my life without her anymore.
One of my fondest memories is her first birthday. When I see how much she’s grown – from a tiny little puppy that fit in my hand to the young Malinois she is now – I really realise just how much we’ve been through together.
The fact that, with Puro, I’ve found a brand of baby food I trust and that Kira enjoys eating is a lovely bonus for me. I think it’s special that Puro has been a family business since 1887. The transparency, the quality and the opportunity to receive personalised advice really appeal to me. I also appreciate the good value for money.
I would therefore definitely recommend Puro to other dog owners who are looking for suitable food for their dog.
