Hot weather tips for dog and cat

Summer is here again and temperatures can rise again. On hot days, it is important to provide cooling for your dog and cat. Animals cannot sweat in the same way as humans to cool their bodies. Dogs and cats lose their heat mainly by panting and through the pads of their paws. On very hot days, this is often not enough.

We would therefore like to give you 5 tips to help your pet during hot days.

Heat tips for dogs:

  1. Walk early or late in the day.
Take your dog for a walk early in the morning or late at night. It is less hot then.
  2. Don't walk on asphalt.
Asphalt can get very hot and burn your dog's paws.
  3. Give your dog shade or leave him inside.
Make sure your dog always has a cool place.
  4. Give plenty of drinking water.
Put trays of fresh water in different places.
  5. Don't leave your dog in the car.
A car can get very hot very quickly. Your dog can dry out in as little as 10 minutes!

Heat tips for cats:

  1. Play early or late in the day.
Play with your cat only early in the morning or late at night.
  2. Give your cat cool down.
Provide shade, water at room temperature and use a cooling mat if necessary.
  3. Brush your cat regularly.
This will thin the fur and keep your cat cooler.
  4. Create cool spots in the house.
For example, put wet towels where your cat likes to lie.
  5. Keep windows and curtains closed.
This helps keep your home cool and your cat comfortable.

Cooling is important for your pet's health, but also ensures that you can enjoy the summer together without worries. Take good care of your dog and cat and help them get through the hot days!
