Switching from puppy food to adult food

Dogs grow quickly and go through different life stages: they go from puppy to junior and grow into adult dogs. Exactly when a life stage changes depends on the breed and size of your four-legged friend. Small dog breeds tend to mature faster than larger breeds, which sometimes take 18 to 24 months to reach full maturity.

Switching to junior or adult food is an important step in your dog's development. Puppy food contains extra nutrients for growth and development, while adult food is better tailored to the maintenance needs of an adult dog.

Do you have doubts about the right time or the appropriate food? Always consult your breeder or vet. Our customer service is also here to help you choose the right food for your dog's life stage. Do you know what stage of life your dog is in? In our webshop, you can easily filter by life stage, but also by size and weight. So you will always find the right food.

How do you organise the transition from puppy food to adult food?

Changing to different, new food in phases and gradually is always a good idea. So even when your dog is ready for adult food, it is advisable to let your dog get used to the new food. This reduces the risk of intestinal or stomach problems.

An example to make the switch from puppy food to adult food to make is the four-day plan.

On the first day, divide the puppy food and adult food between the food bowl in the division 75% - 25%. On day two, it will be 50% - 50%. Day three you give your dog 25% puppy food and 75% adult food in his bowl and on day four your dog switches 100% to adult food.
